Fortunate Woman, 2013
An Editor's Pick at CD Baby, "Fortunate Woman" contains nine original songs and two classic country covers ("Cow-Cow Boogie" and "Honkytonk Man"). Writing and rewriting over the course of many years and in many locations--Iowa City, Nashville, New York, New Haven, and Hollywood--C.C. finally recorded these songs in 2013 in Pasadena, CA, with her co-writer, arranger, engineer, producer, and all-around handyman/husband, Eric Rawson.
This is classic Southern California folk-rock with a little West Texas swing and East Tennessee twang. If you love singer-songwriters from the 1970s, you'll love this CD! Think of the music of James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Graham Parsons, and Carole King sung with a warm, rich voice ala Patsy Cline, Martina McBride, Barbara Mandrell, Sara Evans, and k.d. lang.
Fortunate Woman features C. C. Grace on guitar and vocals, the incomparable Greg Liesz on pedal steel, Tom Izzo on lead guitar, and Eric Rawson and Rick Cunha behind the board.
